Riverside is anunincorporated community inLincoln County,New Mexico, in the southwestern United States. It is located along theRio Hondo that flows east out of theSacramento Mountains, theSierra Blanca and theCapitan Mountains of south-central New Mexico. It is on combined routesU.S. 380 andU.S. 70, between the town ofLincoln andRoswell.[2] The nearest community is Sunset about a mile upstream.[2]
The settlement was established afterWorld War I when W. O. Norman opened afilling station there, called "Big Hill Filling Station", and a car camp. In 1930 Norman sold his interest and the place was renamed "Riverside Camp", which was soon shortened to "Riverside".[3][4]
