TheRiver Braan (Scottish Gaelic:Breamhainn) is a tributary of theRiver Tay inScotland. Within the county ofPerth and Kinross, it flows 11 miles (17 km) eastwards fromLoch Freuchie, nearAmulree, and joins the River Tay nearDunkeld.
The nameBraan is likely ofPritenic origin and derived from*breμ-, meaning "bellow, bray, roar" (Welshbrefu).[1] A similar etymological root underlies the names of the riversBreamish inNorthumberland, England, and theBrefi inCeredigion, Wales.[1]
