Ritu Pathak (born 4 September 1987) is aBollywoodplayback singer. Born in Gopalganj, India, she rose to fame after participating in the second season ofIndian Idol. She was one of the finalists in another TV music talent show,Fame X.^[1] She has recorded numerous songs with many prominent composers, such asShankar–Ehsaan–Loy,Sajid–Wajid andAnand Raj Anand.

Pathak was born in a village in Gopalganj, SeoniMadhya Pradesh.^[1] Her father was a singer who performed at local orchestras and small gatherings. She was encouraged by him to pursue a career in music and he used to take her to participate in reality singing shows.^[2] She got her first vocal lessons inNagpur^[3] and she received Hindustani classical vocal training from Sangit Mahabharti.^[4]

Pathak participated in singing talent showFame X on the suggestion of Sonia Rao, who was a judge on the show.^[5] She gained recognition from her performance in the show; and afterwards metAnand Raj Anand and began singing scratches for presentations.

In 2010, Pathak metShankar–Ehsaan–Loy who selected her to sing thePapa Jag Jaayega, for the filmHousefull. After that, she worked with composerPritam Chakraborty to sing the songRazia Gundo Mein Phans Gayi from filmThank You and other songs fromHello Darling andAction Replayy.^[6] She went on to work withAnand Raj Anand to singJalebi Bai for the filmDouble Dhamaal, which is one of her most popular songs to date.^{[citation needed]}

Pathak has also worked withSajid–Wajid in many songs, such asRadha Nachegi inTevar.^[3][7]

Pathak has sung playback for the actressSonakshi Sinha on many occasions, such as in the songGandi Baat fromR. Rajkumar.^[8][9]

Pathak has also sungLip to Lip (fromKatti Batti),DJ Bajega To Pappu Nachega (fromKis Kisko Pyaar Karoon)Cinema Dekhe Mamma (fromSingh Is Bliing). Having worked with so many composers, she wishes to sing for the maestroA. R. Rahman one day.^[10][11]

In 2012, Pathak hosted the show ‘Retrospective Special’ which was broadcast onDD1 which features interesting trivia about movies from the golden era.^[10] She has performed in live shows in numerous events in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Raipur, Udaipur and other major Indian cities.^{[citation needed]} She has also performed in Poland, Muscat, Rangoon, Kathmandu and Malaysia and China.^[1] She toured to Australia & Fiji Island withJohnny Lever,Priyanka Chopra &Abhijeet Sawant. In 2007, she did a show in Israel withJohnny Lever.^[4]

Pathak was nominated in theStardust Awards in 2012 for the category New Musical Sensation - Female for the songJalebi Bai in the filmDouble Dhamaal).^[12]
