Right-Believing (Russian:благоверный,Greek:εὐσεβής,Latin:pius), also called under the prefixThe most Orthodox,[1] is anOrthodoxsaint title formonarchs who werecanonized for having lived a righteous life. They do not belong tomartyrs orpassion bearers. The saint title was initially given toByzantine Emperors and their wives by thePatriarchate of Constantinople in the period ofEcumenical Councils, but other local Orthodox churches later took that tradition, including theRussian Orthodox Church. Russian Right-Believing princes includeAndrey Bogolyubsky,Davyd Yuryevich,Alexander Nevsky, andDmitry Donskoy.
