Rider is a publishingimprint ofEbury Publishing, aPenguin Random House division, started by William Rider & Son inBritain in 1908 when it took over theoccult publisher Phillip Wellby. Theeditorial director of the new list was Ralph Shirley and under his direction, they began to publish titles as varied as theRider–Waite tarot deck andBram Stoker'sDracula.
The current Rider motto is "New Ideas for New Ways of Living", and books and authors on the list reflect this. There are still books on the paranormal, with authors likeRaymond Moody andColin Fry; onastral projection with authorsSylvan Muldoon andHereward Carrington; andspirituality, with books by theDalai Lama andJack Kornfield; and books on current and international affairs by authors as diverse asNobel Prize-winnersArchbishop Desmond Tutu andShirin Ebadi.
