Richard Welch is an Australian politician who currently serves as a member of theVictorian Legislative Council for theNorth-Eastern Metropolitan Region. He entered parliament on 7 February 2024,[1] having won theLiberal Party's preselection on 3 December 2023 to replace the retiringMatthew Bach.[2]

Welch was previously an unsuccessful candidate for the stateelectoral district of Yan Yean in the2022 Victorian state election, for the federalDivision of McEwen in the2022 Australian federal election,[3] and for the federalDivision of Jagajaga in the2019 Australian federal election.

Prior to entering politics, he worked in financial services forMerrill Lynch in London. After an MBA atImperial College London, Welch invented, patented and manufactured motion-tracking technology used in cricket.[4]
