Richard Lionel Tapper is a professor emeritus of theSchool of Oriental and African Studies of theUniversity of London. He is a socialanthropologist who didethnographic field research inIran,Afghanistan andTurkey. His publications have focussed on pastoralnomadism, relations betweenethnic andtribal minorities and the state, the anthropological study ofIslam, the anthropology of food,Iranian cinema, and Iranian religious politics.
