Richard Schuil (born 2 May 1973) is a formerbeach volleyballplayer from theNetherlands.
Schuil was born inLeeuwarden,Friesland. A formervolleyball player, he represented his native country in three consecutiveSummer Olympics in volleyball, starting in1996 inAtlanta.[1] There he won the gold medal with the Dutch Men's National Team by defeating archrivalsItaly in the final (3–2).[2]
After the2004 Summer Olympics, Schuil teamed withReinder Nummerdor for a career inbeach volleyball.[3] The two won their firstFIVB World Tour gold medal in 2007 atValencia. To date they have won six gold medals. They have also appeared at two Olympic Games.
In his beach volleyball career, Schuil won 18 tournaments and $568,000 in prizes.[3]
Schuil married on 6 June 2009 the Dutch volleyball player Elke Wijnhoven. In March 2012, their daughter Lisa was born.
