Richard Kyle John Joyce (born 30 July 1992)[1] is a New Zealandfield hockey player who plays as agoalkeeper for Belgian clubRacing Club de Bruxelles and theNew Zealand national team.[2][3]
Richard Joyce was born and raised inNorth Shore, New Zealand.[2]
In theNew Zealand National Hockey League, Joyce played for theNorth Harbour men's team.[4] He joinedRacing Club de Bruxelles in theBelgian Hockey League for the 2020–21 season.[5]
Richard Joyce made his debut for theNew Zealand under-21 team in 2012, at theSultan of Johor Cup inJohor Bahru.[6]
The following year in 2013, Joyce represented the team at theJunior World Cup inNew Delhi. At the tournament, the team finished seventh.[7]
In 2014, Richard Joyce debuted for the New Zealand senior international team, the 'Black Sticks', during a test series againstJapan inWellington.[7][2]
Joyce claimed his first major medal for New Zealand in 2017, winning silver at theOceania Cup inSydney.[8] He followed this up with silver medals at the2018 Commonwealth Games on theGold Coast,[9][10] and again at theOceania Cup in2019 inRockhampton.[11]
