Richard H. Wilkinson (born 1951) is anarchaeologist in the field ofEgyptology. He is Regents Professor Emeritus, Ph.D. at theUniversity of Arizona and founding director of the University of Arizona Egyptian Expedition.[1] He conducted research and excavation inEgypt for 25 years, mainly in theValley of the Kings, and most recently excavating the royal temple ofTwosret, aqueen[2] of theNineteenth Dynasty of Egypt who ruled Egypt as aking.
Wilkinson has held a number of professional offices. He is the founding editor of theJournal of Ancient Egyptian Interconnections, a scholarly journal dedicated to the interactions ofancient Egypt with other ancientNear Eastern andMediterranean cultures.[3] He is the author of many scholarly articles and books on Egyptology and his books have been translated into many languages. He is best known for his studies of Egyptian symbolism and his work in Egyptianarchaeology.
