Rich Boehne (born 1958) is an American media executive. He is the chairman of the board of theE.W. Scripps Company, and its former president and chief executive officer.

Education

Boehne was born in 1958. He studied atHighlands High School in Kentucky.[1] He has a Bachelors in Communication and Journalism from theNorthern Kentucky University (NKU), by whom he was described as “one of [their] most successful alumni.[2]

Career

Boehne started his career selling subscriptions forThe Cincinnati Post, while he was inhigh school. Having graduated school, he worked atThe Cincinnati Enquirer as a part-timereporter. Once he had hisBachelor’s Degree, he joined a chain of community newspapers, where he progressed while Suburban Communications (the company owner) bought and consolidated various Midwestern family-owned publications.[3]

Boehne started working at Scripps in 1988 in the capacity ofManager ofInvestor Relations and a year later,Executive Vice President. He soon after became Director of Communication Efforts for the firm, simultaneously participating in the group that worked on the company’s long-termstrategic planning and development. In 1995 he became aVice President.[4]

Boehne was appointed as the chief executive officer of E.W. Scripps in 2008.[5] He became chairman of the board in 2013, taking over from Nackey Scagliotti who had held the position for five years.[6] Boehne was succeeded as president and CEO byAdam P. Symson on August 8, 2017.[7]

Boehne sits on theBoard of Directors of theAssociated Press, Cincinnati’s External Advisory Board atDeloitte & Touche, theBoard of Regents at Northern Kentucky University and is a Director of Cincinnati'sFreestore Foodbank. He is Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce’s (where in the past he held the role of Chairman) Agenda 360 Regional Planning Organization. Within this role he solidifies the firm’s commitment to public service via its adage, “Give light and the people will find their own way.”[8]

Philanthropy

Scripps donated $1 million in Boehne’s name to theScripps Howard Foundation in 2014.[9]
