Riann Steele is an American-born British actress. She began her career in theatre. Her films includeTreacle Jr. (2010),Sket (2011), andThe Creeping (2022). On television, she starred in theE4 comedyCrazyhead (2016) and theNBC seriesDebris (2021).

She had recurring roles in the BBC medical soapHolby City (2009–2010) and theChannel 4 sitcomLovesick (2014–2016), and season 5 of theSyfy seriesThe Magicians (2020).

Early life

Steele was born in Brooklyn and grew up inEaling, West London. She studied at theArts Educational School (a.k.a. ArtsEd).[1]

Career

After completing her studies, Steele appeared in variousRoyal Shakespeare Company productions, includingA Midsummer Night's Dream,Love's Labours Lost andHamlet (including itssubsequent BBC television film adaptation in 2009) alongsideDavid Tennant. From 2009 to 2010, she played Nurse Lauren Minster inHolby City. Her first feature film role was oppositeAidan Gillen inTreacle Jr., released in 2010.[2] In 2012, she starred in the filmSket as Shaks, the girlfriend of a violent gang leader portrayed byAshley Walters,[3] and inDoctor Who (series 7) as Queen Nefertiti.[4] She has also appeared as Cleo, a therapist, in theChannel 4/Netflix comedy seriesLovesick and also appeared as Sydney Halliday in four episodes ofNCIS: New Orleans Season 4.

In 2021, Steele played the role of Finola Jones in the short livedNBC dramaDebris.[5]

Personal life

Steele has two children, twin daughters born in October 2022.[6]
