Ethiopian Chief Rabbi of Israel

Reuven Wabashat (Hebrew:ראובן וואבאשט; born 1971) is the currentEthiopianChief Rabbi of Israel since 2018, a year after his predecessor, RabbiYosef Hadane, stepped down.[1][2][3]

Biography

Wabashat madealiyah to Israel fromEthiopia at the age of 2 in 1973 and grew up inRamla.

In 1989, he was conscripted into theIsrael Defense Forces, serving in theGolani Brigade and later received his rabbinic ordination fromSephardic Chief RabbiOvadia Yosef.[4][5]
