TheRepublican Party (Romanian:Partidul Republican, PR) was apolitical party inRomania. In 1993 it merged with two other parties to create theParty of Social Democracy in Romania (PSDR), although some dissatisfied members created aparty with the same name later the same year.
The Republican Party contested the1990 general elections as part of theAlliance for Romanian Unity (AUR), anationalistpolitical alliance formed with theRomanian National Unity Party (PUNR).[1] The alliance received 2.1% of theChamber of Deputies vote, winning nine seats. It also received 2.2% of theSenate vote, winning two seats.[2] However, all of the seats were taken by the PUNR.[3] The Republican Party contested the1992 general elections alone, receiving 1.6% of the Chamber vote and failing to win a seat.[4]
