Republican National Coalition for Life

American anti-abortion organization

TheRepublican National Coalition for Life (RNCL), often stylized asRNC/Life, is an organization formed to maintain the commitment of theRepublican Party of theUnited States toanti-abortion principles.

History

RNC/Life was founded byPhyllis Schlafly in the autumn of 1990 after two groups,Republicans for Choice and National Republican Coalition for Choice, publicly announced their intention to provoke a floor fight at the1992 Republican National Convention inHouston, Texas in order to remove theanti-abortion plank from the convention platform.[1][non-primary source needed]

The Republican Party has been theanti-abortion national political party since a resolution in support of efforts to secure aHuman Life Amendment to theUnited States Constitution was adopted at the1976 Republican National Convention, following the 1973Roe v. Wade decision.[citation needed]

The executive director of RNC/Life from 1990 to 2010 was Colleen Parro Baillargeon.[2]

Post-Dobbs

After theDobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Supreme Court decision overturningRoe in 2022, the focus of RNC/Life shifted to state legislative action.[3] They have polled state legislators on pro-life positions and have endorsed pro-life Republicans.[4]

Ed Martin has been president of RNC/Life since 2013.[5]
