Arelease modulator, orneurotransmitter release modulator, is a type ofdrug thatmodulates therelease of one or moreneurotransmitters. Examples of release modulators includemonoamine releasing agents such as thesubstituted amphetamines (which induce the release ofnorepinephrine, dopamine, and/orserotonin)[1] andrelease inhibitors such asbotulinum toxin A (which inhibitsacetylcholine release by inactivatingSNAP-25, thereby preventingexocytosis from occurring).[2]
