Rebecca Rayne Holloway (born 25 August 1995) is a professionalfootballer who plays as adefender forBirmingham City W.F.C. and theNorthern Ireland national team.

Early life

Born inNailsea,North Somerset, Holloway started playing football at the age of five for local side Nailsea Boys before moving on to Clevedon Town and eventuallyBristol City Academy where she was coached by futureEngland managerMark Sampson.[2]

Cumberland Phoenix

In 2015, Holloway moved to theUnited States to study and playcollege soccer atCumberland University. She played four seasons forNAIA teamCumberland Phoenix, notably earningMid-South Conference First-Team selection in three straight years and was named back to back Mid-South Conference Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018. As a senior, Holloway led the league in goals with 22.[3][4]

Club career

Nashville Rhythm

In 2019, Holloway played for semi-professionalWPSL team Nashville Rhythm. She made 11 appearances, scoring one goal as Nashville finished second in the Southeast Conference.[5]

Birmingham City

On 24 July 2019, Holloway returned to England to sign withFA WSL teamBirmingham City.[6] On 19 July 2021, Holloway signed a contract extension at Birmingham for the 2021–22 season.[7]

Racing Louisville

On 31 March 2022,Racing Louisville paid a transfer fee to purchase Holloway, signing her to a two-year contract.[8]

Holloway made nine total appearances, starting in five, in the2023 season. On 2 September 2023 she got her first assist for Racing Louisville, helpingThembi Kgatlana’s game-winner for the club’s first ever victory overPortland Thorns.[9]

Her Racing Louisville contract expired in November 2023.[10]

Birmingham City

Holloway returned to Birmingham, signing for the club in January 2024.[11] On 14 July 2025, it was announced that she had signed a two-year contract extension.[11]

International career

Holloway represented Northern Ireland atunder-19 level. She received several invitations to senior women's squad training camps, however her studies in the USA prevented her from attending.[12]

In August 2019, Holloway was named to thesenior team forUEFA Euro 2021 qualifying matches againstNorway andWales but was an unused substitute in both.[13] Having removed herself from the national team fold to focus on her mental health, Holloway eventually made her senior international debut on 9 April 2021, againstUkraine in theEuro 2022 qualifying play-offs. She played the full 90 minutes of both legs stepping in for injured long-term left-backDemi Vance as Northern Ireland won 4–1 on aggregate, qualifying the team for theEuro 2022. It was the first time Northern Ireland had qualified for a major international tournament.[14]

Holloway was part of the squad that was called up to theUEFA Women's Euro 2022.[15] At the Euro 2022, she played in all three group stage games, starting twice and coming on as a substitute once.

Personal life

Holloway is dating fellowBirmingham City teammate andRepublic of Ireland forwardLucy Quinn.[16]

In December 2023, Holloway discussed hermental health problems.[17]
