Ramón Rodríguez (born in 1979) is a Puerto Rican actor. Since 2023, he has starred as the title character in theABC seriesWill Trent. His previous television work included roles inThe Wire (2006–2008) andDay Break (2006–2007), and in the filmsTransformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) andThe Taking of Pelham 123 (2009). He portrayedJohn Bosley in the 2011 reboot ofCharlie's Angels. In 2014, Rodríguez starred as Ryan Lopez on theFox crime drama television seriesGang Related. In 2017, he portrayedBakuto on theMarvel Cinematic Universe superhero television seriesIron Fist andThe Defenders. In 2018, he played the role of Benjamin Cruz on theShowtime television seriesThe Affair.

Life and career

Rodríguez was born inRío Piedras, San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1979[a] and raised on theLower East Side ofManhattan.[2][3] He attendedNew York City Lab School for Collaborative Studies and thenThe Leelanau School inMichigan, where he played basketball during his final two years. He continued playing basketball for another two years atWheeling Jesuit University inWest Virginia, before transferring toNew York University, where he earned his degree insports marketing.[4]

Rodríguez began his career in 2005, with the role of Ángel Rodríguez in the direct-to-video filmCarlito's Way: Rise to Power and the recurring role of Kevin Vasquez on two episodes ofRescue Me. He went on to appear on series such asLaw & Order: Special Victims Unit,Day Break, andThe Wire. He has also appeared in the filmsBella (2006),Pride and Glory (2008),Surfer, Dude (2008),The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009), andTransformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009). Rodríguez was cast asJohn Bosley for the television reboot ofCharlie's Angels in 2011.[5][6] The series was cancelled after four episodes had aired.[7]

In 2013, he landed the lead role on theFox crime drama seriesGang Related, portraying Ryan Lopez, the adopted son of a crime lord who infiltrates theLos Angeles Police Department so his family can keep ahead of the law.[8] The series began in 2014, but was ultimately cancelled after one season.[9] Rodríguez then co-starred as Joe "Beasty" Peck, withAaron Paul, in the action filmNeed for Speed.[10] In 2016, Rodríguez co-starred oppositeVera Farmiga andVirginia Madsen in the adventure drama filmBurn Your Maps, directed byJordan Roberts. In 2017, he co-starred as Matt Morales in the drama biopicMegan Leavey, alongsideKate Mara, who played US MarineMegan Leavey.[11] Also that year, he played the role of Bakuto in both theNetflix seriesIron Fist andThe Defenders. Since 2023, he has portrayed the titular character on the ABC seriesWill Trent.[12]

He joked that he would not reveal his actual birthday because he enjoys the gifts and greetings, including from co-workers and family members (cousins), on what he calls his "internet birthday" each December.[1]
