Ralph Zondag is a Canadian animator, storyboard artist, and director.
Zondag studied animation atSheridan College,Ontario, Canada from 1983 to 1984.
He started his career at theToronto-basedNelvana studio in working on projects likeThe Care Bears Movie (1985).[1]: 48 He later joinedSullivan Bluth Studios in Ireland and worked as animation director onThe Land Before Time (1988),[1]: 138 in which he animated the characters Petrie and the Sharptooth,[citation needed] andAll Dogs Go to Heaven (1989).[1]: 14 He also directed television commercials while working at Sullivan Bluth.[citation needed] In 1993, he made his directorial debut forWe're Back! A Dinosaur's Story based on the book of thesame name, along with his brother Dick.[1]: 138
Zondag joinedWalt Disney Feature Animation during the early 1990s and co-wrotePocahontas in 1995.[1]: 204 In 2000, he and Eric Leighton directedDinosaur as a part of the Disney Computer Graphics Unit. Zondag was nominated forAnnie Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement for Directing in an Animated Feature Production.[2]
He worked on projects such asRugrats Go Wild (2003),Home on the Range (2004),Balto III: Wings of Change (2004),Valiant (2005), andCurious George (2006). Zondag worked as storyboard artist onUltimate Avengers 2,Flushed Away (2006),The Golden Compass (2007), andKung Fu Panda (2008). He worked the 3-D animated featuresMeet the Robinsons (2007)[3] andBolt (2008). Zondag also created concept art during the pre-production ofTangled (2010).
His most recent credits are the educational TV seriesSpace Racers and the Christian-themed filmThe Star.
