Rajkot State was one of theprincely states ofIndia during the period ofBritish rule. It was a 9-gunsalute state belonging to theKathiawar Agency of theBombay Presidency.[2] Its capital was inRajkot, located in the historicalHalar region ofKathiawar on the banks of theAji River. Nowadays, Rajkot is the fourth largest city ofGujarat state.
Rajkot was founded byThakurSahib Vibhoji Ajoji Jadeja in 1620. He was the grandson of Jam Shri Satarsal (Sataji) Vibhaji Jadeja ofNawanagar.[citation needed] Thekotwals of the royal palace ofRajkot.
The rulers of Rajkot were titled 'Thakur Sahib' with the style of 'His Highness, and belonged to theJadeja Rajput dynasty.[3]

The city of Rajkot became the headquarters of theWestern India States Agency in 1924.[citation needed]
