Railway Gazette International is a British monthly business magazine and news website covering therailway,metro,light rail andtram industries worldwide. Available by annual subscription, the magazine is read in over 140 countries by transport professionals and decision makers, railway managers, engineers, consultants and suppliers to the rail industry.[2] A mix of technical, commercial and geographical feature articles, plus the regular monthly news pages, cover developments in all aspects of the rail industry, including infrastructure, operations,rolling stock andsignalling.
Railway Gazette International traces its history to May 1835 asThe Railway Magazine, when it was founded byEffingham Wilson.[3] TheRailway Gazette title dates from July 1905, created to cover railway commercial and financial affairs.[4] In April 1914, it merged withThe Railway Times, which incorporatedHerapath's Railway Journal, and in February 1935 it absorbed theRailway Engineer.[4] Around this time, it also absorbedThe Railway News.[5] It then reflected all aspects of railway activity,[4] particularly in theBritish Empire and in other areas of the world which used similar technology.[5]
In January 1964, it merged with the sister publicationDiesel Railway Traction and its frequency reduced from weekly to fortnightly.[5][6]
In October 1970, it was renamedRailway Gazette International and reduced in frequency to monthly.[5][7]
Railway Gazette International is part of theRailway Gazette Group, itself part ofDVV Media Group. It was part ofReed Business Information until 1 April 2007.[8]
Railway Gazette International is published monthly andMetro Report International twice a year.[citation needed]
