Rahman Bin Ismail is aMalaysian politician and a physician. He served as theMember of Parliament (MP) forGombak from 2004 to 2008.
He is a member ofthe United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a political party that is part of theBarisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
Rahman received his early education atSultan Alam Shah School. He later studied medicine atUniversity Kebangsaan Malaysia and theUniversity of Malaya.
He completed postgraduate training at Johns Hopkins University, the Pasteur Institute, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).[1]
Rahman is a physician specializing invaccinology,epidemiology, and clinical research. In 1997, he was appointed as the medical and scientific director for the Asia Pacific region at the vaccine manufacturerSanofi Pasteur.[2]
He has been an adviser to the Public Health Specialist Society and a member of the National Biotechnology Council.[3]
Rahman has also been involved in clinical trials, hospital studies, epidemiological research, and infectious disease surveillance.[4]
Rahman joined theUMNO in 1986 and was a representative of youth leader in the UMNO andBN coalition.[5]
Rahman was selected as a BN candidate for the Malaysian2004 general election and was elected as a Member of Parliament for Gombak, defeatingMohd Hatta Ramli of theParti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS). He served a single term from 2004 to 2008 and did not contest the seat in the2008 general election.
In the2013 general election, Rahman contested the Gombak parliamentary seat as the BN candidate, running againstAzmin Ali ofParti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).[6] Rahman was defeated by Azmin Ali, who won the seat by a margin of 4,734 votes.
