Radio Nova (or simplyNova) is a radio station broadcast from Paris, created in 1981 byJean-François Bizot. Its playlist is characterized by non-mainstream or underground artists of variousmusic genres, such aselectro,new wave,reggae,jazz,hip hop andworld music.
On 25 May 1981, Nova was created through the fusion of several radio stations. Since its creation, the station has been owned by theNova Press company, which also owns the record labelNova Records and the jazz-oriented radio stationTSF Jazz.
From 1985, Radio Nova was oriented mainly aroundworld music, but around 1988 the musical programming was changed to includereggae,funk andrap.
Around 1991, Nova changed its musical programming again, to includeacid jazz andFrench rap. In 1999, its musical programming consisted mainly ofAmbient,chill-out andjungle music.
Also in 1999,Nova Press bought the jazz stationTSF, which became TSF 89,9 and installed its studios next to those of Radio Nova.
Throughout the station's history, several well-known Parisians have had shows on Radio Nova, includingAriel Wizman,Edouard Baer,Jamel Debbouze,Gilles Peterson,Ivan Smagghe,Laurent Garnier,David Guetta andYassine Belattar.[citation needed]
In September 2011, Nova and TSF Jazz left theGIELes Indés Radios to commercialize national advertising via their ownNova Régie. The move came into effect in September 2012.[1]
