Daniel Condren (born 13 April 1995), better known asRTGame (channel also known asRTGameCrowd), as well asThe Drift King,[2] is an Irish-CanadianYouTuber andlive streamer.[3][4][5][6] He is known for his humorous commentary during gameplay,[7] and often plays games in unorthodox or mischievous ways.[8] He began making videos in 2011, began streaming in 2016, and experienced a surge in popularity in 2018.[3] As of 15 August 2023[update], hisYouTube channel has over 2.8 million subscribers,[9] while hisTwitch channel has over 1.1 million followers.[10]

Early life

[edit]

Condren was born inIreland on 13 April 1995,[11] the son of anIrish father andCanadian mother. He holds dual Irish and Canadian citizenship.[12] He studied atTrinity College inDublin, where he earned abachelor's degree in English literature in November 2017.[13][14] It was during his time in college when he gained the title of 'The Drift King' after winning a collegeMario Kart tournament on 3 December 2015.[2][15]

Career

[edit]

Condren created hisYouTube channel on 13 August 2011 and uploaded his first video, aTerrariaLet's Play, five days later.[16] In December 2018, he joinedYogscast's annual charity eventJingle Jam, where he helped raise $3.3 million.[17][18]

His videos have included organisingMinecraft building sessions for his Twitch subscribers,[3] spending 13 days (and an in-game time of 2 days) searching for a shinyWooloo inPokémon Sword andShield,[19] and knocking out everyNPC in theHitman 3 level ofSapienza in order to stuff them all into a meat freezer and kill the entire population with a single shot into an explosive canister (which ultimately failed when the bodies formed a "meat shield").[5][6][20]

In December 2022, YouTube age-restricted some of his videos. Condren asserted that the platform was "retroactively restricting videos that violate recent policy changes."[21] The updated guidelines gained visibility when he made a video on the topic,[22] with YouTube set to revise the policy after being criticised for its poor communication regarding these changes.[23][24]
