RFK Novi Sad 1921 (Serbian Cyrillic:РФК Нови Сад 1921) is a professionalfootball club based inNovi Sad, Vojvodina, Serbia.

History

Founded in 1921 as NTK, the club was refounded in 1948 as FK Trgovački. They changed their name to FK Novi Sad in 1954. The club subsequently acquired the assets of NSK (formerly FK Eđšeg) through a merger in 1956.[1]

In 1958, the club became part of newly formedYugoslav Second League.[2] Led by technical directorHugo Ruševljanin, they competed in Group East for three seasons, finishing as champions in1960–61 to reach theYugoslav First League for the first time ever.[2] The club remained in the top flight of Yugoslav football until1964.[3] They subsequently spent two seasons in the Second League, finishing bottom of the table in1965–66.[3]

In 1966, the club merged with FK Radnički to form RFK Novi Sad. They finished asSerbian League North runners-up in 1966–67 before winning the title in 1967–68 to return to the Yugoslav Second League. The club spent the next 12 seasons in the second tier, including six seasons in Group North (1968–1974) and six seasons in Group West (1974–1980).[4][5][6] They also reached theYugoslav Cup semi-finals in1976–77, losing to the eventual winnersHajduk Split.[7] Later on, the club returned to the Second League after winning theVojvodina League in 1982, remaining in the second tier until1988.[8]

After thebreakup of Yugoslavia, the club advanced to theFR Yugoslavia Cup semi-finals in1995–96.[9] They also spent 14 consecutive seasons in theSecond League of FR Yugoslavia/Serbia and Montenegro until 2006.[10][11] The club promptly won theSerbian League Vojvodina in2006–07 and took promotion to theSerbian First League.[12] They competed in the second tier of Serbian football until2013.[13]

In 2014, the club was reformed as RFK Novi Sad 1921. They reached theVojvodina League South in 2020. After winning the title in 2022, the club merged withFK Proleter Novi Sad, taking itsSerbian First League spot.[14]
