The proto-oncogenec-Rel is aprotein that in humans is encoded by theRELgene.[5] The c-Rel protein is a member of theNF-κB family oftranscription factors and contains aRel homology domain (RHD) at itsN-terminus and twoC-terminal transactivation domains. c-Rel is amyeloid checkpoint protein that can be targeted for treating cancer.[6] c-Rel has an important role inB-cell survival and proliferation. The REL gene is amplified or mutated in several humanB-cell lymphomas, includingdiffuse large B-cell lymphoma andHodgkin's lymphoma.[7]
