Queensbury and Shelf was anurban district in theWest Riding of Yorkshire from 1937 to 1974. The district was formed by aCounty Review Order by the amalgamation ofQueensbury andShelf urban districts. It contained only thecivil parish of Queensbury and Shelf.[1] In 1961 the district had a population of 9306.[2]
Queensbury and Shelf were included in themetropolitan county ofWest Yorkshire in 1974 under theLocal Government Act 1972. The former urban district was divided between twometropolitan boroughs: the wards of Shelf East and Shelf West were included inCalderdale, and the remaining wards inBradford.[3]
