Qalaouiyah (Arabic:قلويه) is a municipality in theBint Jbeil District in southernLebanon.
According toE. H. Palmer, the nameKalawei comes from the ancientKelabo.[1]
In 1881, thePEF'sSurvey of Western Palestine (SWP) described Burj Alawei as: “A village, built of stone, on high ground, containing 150Metawileh, surrounded by olives, fig-trees, and arable land. The water supply is fromcisterns only."[2] They further noted: "Ancient remains and somelintels."[3]
In 2014Muslims made up 99.41% of registered voters in Qalaouiyah. 98.22% of the voters wereShiite Muslims.[4]
