Qa (Ԛ ԛ; italics:Ԛ ԛ) is a letter of theCyrillic script. Its form is based on theLatin letter Q (Q q). The lowercase form can look like a reversedCyrillic letter Р, and the uppercase as well depending on font.
Qa is used in the Cyrillic alphabet of theKurdish language, where it represents thevoiceless uvular plosive/q/. It was also used to represent/q’/, theuvular ejective stop (now represented byҞ ҟ), in the Translation Committee'sAbkhaz alphabet,[1] published around the turn of the 20th century, and to represent/q/ in three oldOssetian alphabets (now represented by Хь хъ).
This character appeared in newspapers and articles such as 1955'sКӧрдо orKurdo.[citation needed]
In the1930s, Qa was used in the Cyrillic script for theAssyrian language (Suret) in theUSSR and represented thevoiceless velar plosive.
The letter was also used in the scrapped version of theAzerbaijani alphabet.[citation needed] It was, however, eliminated and replaced byҜ inDagestan.
