General of the ArmyPyotr Stepanovich Deynekin (Russian:Пётр Степа́нович Дейне́кин; 14 December 1937 – 19 August 2017) was a Russian and Soviet military officer who was the lastCommander-in-Chief of theSoviet Air Force from 1991 to 1992 and the first of theRussian Air Force from 1992 to 1998.
He was born inMorozovsk,Russian SFSR,Soviet Union. In 1997, he was awarded theHero of the Russian Federation.[1][2][3][4][5] Deynekin's rank wasGeneral of the army. Also he had the federal state civilian service rank of1st class Active State Councillor of the Russian Federation.[6]
In 1969, he graduated from theGagarin Air Force Academy.
From 1991 to 1992, he was commander-in-chief of the air force and deputy defense minister of the USSR. In 1992, he served as commander-in-chief of the Air Force of the Commonwealth of Independent States. From 1992 until 1998, he was the commanding officer of theAir Force of the Russian Federation.
He retired in 2002.
Deynekin died on 19 August 2017 inMoscow at the age of 79.[7][8]
