Pwllmeyric (Welsh: Pwllmeurig) is a small village inMonmouthshire, Wales, located 1 mile south west ofChepstow, on theA48 road within the parish ofMathern. The name Pwllmeyric means, inWelsh, "Meurig's pool" and refers to thepwll or creek of theSevern estuary which, before it silted up, linked the village to the sea. It was named forMeurig ap Tewdrig,king of the early Welsh kingdoms ofGwent andGlywysing in the 5th or 6th century, who buried his fatherTewdrig (St. Theodoric) at Mathern.[1]
The village is the presumed birthplace of Wales internationalfootballerEddie Parris,[2] and the childhood home ofrock musicianGrant Nicholas.
The population in 2011 was 635.[3]
