Pushpa Bhuyan (c. 1946 – 7 October 2015) was an Indian classical dancer specialising in the Indian classical dance forms ofBharatanatyam andSattriya.[2] She comes from theNortheast Indian state ofAssam,[2] and learned sattriya from Bhabananda Barbayan.[3] She later studied bharatanatyam under Guru Mangudi Dorairaja Iyer.[4][5] She has also tutored other dancers.[5] A recipient of theNorth East Television Lifetime Achievement Award,[2][5] Pushpa Bhuyan was honoured by theGovernment of India, in 2002, with the fourth highestIndian civilian award ofPadma Shri.[6]
