Purakkad is a village inAlappuzha district in the Indian state ofKerala.
The literal meaning of Purakkad is "out of forest".[1]
TheBattle of Purakkad took place in 1746 betweenTravancore and combined forces ofOdanad.[citation needed]
It is the site of theSree Venu Gopala Swamy temple.[2]
As of 2001[update] Indiacensus, Purakkad has a population of 27912 with 13751 males and 14161 females. Male literacy rate is 96% and the female literacy rate is 90%.[3]
