Pupiana

Pupiana was an ancient city and formerbishopric in present-dayTunisia. It is currently aLatin Catholic titular see.

History

Pupiana was located near the modern Mra-Mita, Ain-Ouassel. It was important enough in theRoman province ofAfrica proconsularis to become asuffragan of its capital's Metropolitan ArchbishopricCarthage, but faded.

The diocese was nominally restored as Pupiana, temporarily renamedPapiana in 1923–1929; the Italian curiate form isPapia.
