Punta Maldonado (also known asEl Faro on account of the nearbylighthouse)[3] is a small coastal community in theMexican state ofGuerrero.[4] Previously located in themunicipality of Cuajinicuilapa, it became part of the new municipality ofSan Nicolás upon its creation in 2021.[5]
It is notable for itsAfro-Mexican population.[4] The local economy is centred on fishing, particularly for lobster.[6] The beach is also an attractive tourist destination.[4]
Located about one kilometre from the state border between Guerrero andOaxaca, it is frequently used as abreakpoint by Mexico'sServicio Meteorológico Nacional and the U.S.National Hurricane Center.[7][8]
