Proveis (German:[proˈfaɪs];Italian:Proves[proˈves]) is acomune (municipality) and a village inSouth Tyrol in northernItaly, located about 25 kilometres (16 mi) west ofBolzano.
As of 30 November 2010, Proveis had a population of 274 and an area of 18.5 square kilometres (7.1 mi2).[3]
Proveis borders the following municipalities:Cagnò,Laurein,Rumo andUlten.
The emblem represents ablack grouseor square, with the sides curved and the corners decorated with shamrock onazure. The pheasant symbolizes that the place was once famous forhunting; the four vertices represent the four original German-speaking municipalities ofNon Valley:Laurein, Proveis,Unsere Liebe Frau im Walde and St. Felix, the last two united. The emblem was adopted in 1966.[4]
According to the 2024 census, 97.45% of the population speakGerman and 2.55% Italian as first language.[5]
