TheProgress Party[2] (Arabic:حزب تقدم,romanized: Ḥizb Taqadum), also known as theAl-Takadum Movement or by its Arabic short formTakadum (Progress), is anIraqi political party formed to gain political control in the2021 general election.[3]
The party was founded in 2019 byMohamed Al Halbousi, the incumbentSpeaker of theCouncil of Representatives ofIraq, Ali Farhan, the governor ofAnbar, and the politician Yahia Al Mohamadi.[4]
In the2021 Iraqi parliamentary election, the party won 7.2% of the vote, becoming the second-largest individual party behind theSadrists.[5]The party primarily receives support from Sunni Arabs, with its performance highest inAnbar andNineveh governorates, including the city ofMosul.
