TheProgress Chapter One: In The Beginning was the inauguralprofessional wrestling event promoted byProgress Wrestling. It took place on March 25, 2012, inLondon,England atThe Garage.[2][3]
The event mainly focused on the crowning of the inauguralPROGRESS World Champion via an eight-mansingle-elimination tournament which featuredEl Ligero,Noam Dar,Nathan Cruz, Colossus Kennedy, Mike Mason,Colt Cabana,Marty Scurll andZack Sabre Jr.[4]
The event included matches that each resulted from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portrayedheroes,villains, orless distinguishable characters in scripted events that built tension and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results were predetermined by Progress' creative writers,[5] while storylines were produced on Progress' events airing on the Pivotshare service asVOD events.[6]
The event started with the first rounds of the Progress World title inaugural tournament in whichEl Ligero picked up a victory overNoam Dar. Next up,Nathan Cruz defeated Colossus Kennedy in the second first round match. Ongoing, Mike Mason outmatchedColt Cabana with help from his ringside valet (now real life ex-wife) Becky James. In the fourth match.Marty Scurll picked up a victory overZack Sabre Jr. The semi main event saw Xander Cooper retaining the BWC Scarlo Scholarship Championship, a short-lived independent title in athree-way match against Darrell Allen andZack Gibson. In the main event,Nathan Cruz defeatedEl Ligero,Marty Scurll and Mike Mason in afour-way match to become the inaugural Progress World Champion.[7]
