Procapra is a genus of Asian gazelles,[2] including three living species:
The oldest fossils belonging to the genusProcapra date from the latePliocene or earlyPleistocene of central Asia, when the climate was wetter and milder than now. The genus apparently evolved from animals similar to the Pliocene gazelleGazella sinensis,[3] and is known to have been hunted by earlyNeolithic humans atLake Qinghai in China.[4]
