Princess Marie Caroline of Liechtenstein, Countess of Rietberg (Marie Caroline Elisabeth Immaculata; born 17 October 1996) is a member of thePrincely family of Liechtenstein. She is the second child and only daughter ofAlois, Hereditary Prince of Liechtenstein and a granddaughter ofHans-Adam II.
Princess Marie Caroline was born at Grabs Hospital inGrabs, Switzerland on 17 October 1996 as the second child and only daughter ofAlois, Hereditary Prince of Liechtenstein andDuchess Sophie in Bavaria.[1][2] She is the granddaughter ofHans-Adam II, Prince of Liechtenstein.[3] Due to Liechtenstein law excluding women from inheriting the throne, she is not in the line of succession.[4]
She attended Ebenholz Primary School inVaduz and theSwiss International School in theRheintal.[3] Marie Caroline then boarded atMalvern College in England.[5] She graduated fromParsons School of Design in 2020 with a degree in fashion design.[6]
Marie Caroline lives inLondon, where she works in the textile industry.[3]
In October 2024, the Princely family of Liechtenstein announced Marie Caroline's engagement to British-based Venezuelan investment banker Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer.[5][7]
On 30 August 2025, she married Maduro at theCathedral of St. Florin inVaduz.[8] The mass was celebrated by Bishop Benno Elbs, the Apostolic Administrator of theRoman Catholic Archdiocese of Vaduz.[3] Marie Caroline wore theHabsburg fringe tiara for the wedding.[3] The wedding was attended by members of the Liechtenstein princely family as well as Liechtenstein Prime MinisterBrigitte Haas;Manfred Kaufmann, President of theLandtag of Liechtenstein;Princess Victoria, 20th Duchess of Medinaceli;Prince Jaime, Duke of Noto; andPrince Sébastien of Luxembourg.[3] Their reception was held atVaduz Castle.[3]
