Princess Charlotte of Wales (Charlotte Elizabeth Diana; born 2 May 2015) is a member of theBritish royal family . She is the second child and only daughter ofWilliam, Prince of Wales , andCatherine, Princess of Wales , and a granddaughter ofKing Charles III andDiana, Princess of Wales . She is third in the line ofsuccession to the British throne .
Infancy Charlotte was born at 8:34 am on 2 May 2015 atSt Mary's Hospital, London , during the reign of her paternal great-grandmother,Queen Elizabeth II , as the second child ofPrince William andCatherine , then known as Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.[ 1] Her birth was marked by gun salutes[ 2] and illuminating London landmarks pink.[ 3] On 4 May her name was announced as Charlotte Elizabeth Diana,[ 4] honouring her grandfatherCharles , her great-grandmother, and her grandmotherDiana .[ 5] [ 6] Charlotte waschristened on 5 July by thearchbishop of Canterbury ,Justin Welby , atSt Mary Magdalene Church, Sandringham .[ 7]
Upbringing The family lived atAnmer Hall inNorfolk during Charlotte's infancy, before relocating toKensington Palace in 2017.[ 8] [ 9] Charlotte started at Willcocks Nursery School in January 2018.[ 10] She joined her elder brotherGeorge atThomas's School inBattersea in September 2019, where she was known as Charlotte Cambridge.[ 11] In 2022 the family relocated toAdelaide Cottage inWindsor Home Park ,[ 12] after which she and her brothers, George andLouis , began attendingLambrook , an independentpreparatory school inBerkshire .[ 13] [ 14]

Public image Despite the efforts of her parents to keep their children from public view,[ 20] photographs and public appearances of Charlotte continue to cause media frenzies.[ 21] Shopping statistics and polls among parents show that Charlotte is a major children's style icon.[ 21] [ 22] [ 23] Brand Finance previously estimated that she will be worth more than £3 billion to theBritish economy throughout her lifetime.[ 21]
Title and styles Charlotte is aBritish princess with the officialstyle and title "Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Wales".[ 24] Before her father was createdPrince of Wales on 9 September 2022, Charlotte was styled "Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge".[ 25]
Succession Charlotte is third in theline of succession to the British throne , behind her father and elder brother.[ 26] [ 27] Because of the implementation of thePerth Agreement , which replacedmale-preference primogeniture withabsolute primogeniture , she did not move down the line of succession upon the birth of her younger brother Louis in April 2018, making her the first British princess in history to rank above a brother in the line of succession.[ 28]
