Portugal has contested every edition ofWorld Athletics Championships, having won medals in nearly every edition.[1] Its first world champion wasRosa Mota, when she won the women'smarathon at the1987 World Championships in Athletics. In the men's side,Nelson Évora became the first world champion, when he won thetriple jump event in2007.
