Portrait of Madame Perregaux is a 1789portrait painting by the FrenchartistÉlisabeth Vigée Le Brun.[1] It depicts Adélaïde, the wife of the Frenchbanker Jean-François Perregaux. It was one of the final paintings that Le Brun produced before the outbreak of theFrench Revolution. A leading artist during theAncien régime, she went abroad and spent many years working in a variety of countries. After she had leftParis, herart dealer husband submitted the painting to theSalon of 1791 at theLouvre. Both the style of the painting and the choice to produce it as anoil on panel work reflect Le Brun's admiration for theOld MasterPeter Paul Rubens.[2]Today the work is in theWallace Collection inLondon'sManchester Square, having been acquired by theMarquess of Hertford around 1863.[3]
