Psychology is the scientific study ofbehavior andmind. Its subject matter includes the behavior of humans and nonhumans, bothconscious andunconscious phenomena, and mental processes such asthoughts, feelings, andmotives. Psychology is an academic discipline of immense scope, crossing the boundaries between thenatural andsocial sciences. Biological psychologists seek an understanding of theemergent properties of brains, linking the discipline toneuroscience. As social scientists, psychologists aim to understand the behavior of individuals and groups.
A professional practitioner or researcher involved in the discipline is called apsychologist. Some psychologists can also be classified asbehavioral orcognitive scientists. Some psychologists attempt to understand the role of mental functions in individual andsocial behavior. Others explore thephysiological andneurobiological processes that underlie cognitive functions and behaviors.

Psychologists' interests extend tointerpersonal relationships, psychological resilience, family resilience, and other areas withinsocial psychology. They also consider the unconscious mind.
