Introduction

Tea is the second‑most‑consumed drink in the world, afterwater.

Adrink orbeverage is aliquid intended forhuman consumption. In addition to their basic function of satisfyingthirst, drinks play important roles in humanculture. Common types of drinks include plaindrinking water,milk,juice,smoothies andsoft drinks. Traditionallywarm beverages encompasscoffee,tea, andhot chocolate.Caffeinated drinks that contain the stimulantcaffeine, have been consumed for centuries.

In addition,alcoholic drinks such aswine,beer, andliquor, which contain the psychoactive substanceethanol, have been part ofhuman culture for more than 8,000 years.Non-alcoholic drinks typically refer to beverages that are traditionally alcoholic—such asbeer,wine, orcocktails—but are produced with a very lowalcohol by volume content. Pemberton, before 1888

John Stith Pemberton (July 8, 1831 – August 16, 1888) was an American pharmacist andConfederate States Army officer who is best known as the inventor ofCoca-Cola. On May 8, 1886, he developed an early version of a beverage that would later become Coca-Cola, but sold the rights to the drink shortly before his death in 1888.

Pemberton suffered from a sabre wound sustained in April 1865, during theBattle of Columbus. His efforts to control his chronic pain led tomorphine addiction. In an attempt to curb his addiction he began to experiment with various painkillers and toxins. The development of an earlier beverage blending alcohol and cocaine led to the recipe that later was adapted to makeCoca-Cola. (Full article...)
