Poospizopsis is agenus of warbler-liketanagers. They are found in highland forest inSouth America.
Amolecular phylogenetic study of the tanager familyThraupidae published in 2014 found that the genusPoospiza waspolyphyletic.[1] In the subsequent reorganization two species fromPoospiza were assigned to the resurrected genusPoospizopsis that had been introduced in 1893 by the German ornithologistHans von Berlepsch with thechestnut-breasted mountain finch as thetype species.[2][3][4] The name of the genus combinesPoospiza with theAncient Greekopsis meaning "appearance".[5]
The two species now placed in the genus are:[4]
