Thecity is located in the confluence of theRio Uruguay andRio do Mel rivers, close to the border with the Brazilian state ofSanta Catarina.
The municipality is part of theHidrominerais region, in themicroregion ofFrederico Westphalen. It is located in theperimeter of the undergroundAquífero Guarani.
