Planalto is amunicipality in thestate ofRio Grande do Sul,Brazil, located at27°19′44″S53°03′31″W / 27.32889°S 53.05861°W /-27.32889; -53.05861, at anelevation of 568 meters above sea level. It has a totalarea of 237.35 km2. Its estimatedpopulation in 2020 was 10,019inhabitants.
Thecity is located in the confluence of theRio Uruguay andRio do Mel rivers, close to the border with the Brazilian state ofSanta Catarina.
The municipality is part of theHidrominerais region, in themicroregion ofFrederico Westphalen. It is located in theperimeter of the undergroundAquífero Guarani.
