Pituicytoma is a rarebrain tumor. It grows at the base of the brain from thepituitary gland. This tumor is thought to be derived from theparenchymal cells of theposterior lobe of the pituitary gland, calledpituicytes. Some researchers[1] believe that they arise from thefolliculostellate cells in theanterior lobe of the pituitary. As such, it is a low-gradeglioma. It occurs in adults and symptoms includevisual disturbance andendocrine dysfunction. They are often mistaken forpituitary adenomas which have a similar presentation and occur in the same location. The treatment consists of surgical resection, which is curative in most cases.[2]
