Pim van de Meent (20 November 1937 – 13 October 2022) was a Dutchfootball manager and player who played as adefender.
Van de Meent was born inAmsterdam,North Holland on 20 November 1937. He played forHolland Sport,DOS, VUC andNEC Nijmegen. He quit playing at 28 years of age.[1]
Van de Meent was better known for being a football coach, who worked for clubs likePEC Zwolle, NEC (1981–1985) andDe Graafschap.[2]
In 1965 he started managing, winning two amateur league titles withHuizen.[3]He was the first manager of newly-formedFC Amsterdam, reaching 5th place in the1973–74 Eredivisie season and losing to1. FC Köln in the1974–75 UEFA Cup quarter finals.[1]
He reached the1982-83 KNVB Cup final, withNEC (3–1 loss toAjax), and the next season the club participated in theCup Winners' Cup, teaming up against Diego Maradona'sFC Barcelona after beating Norwegian sideBrann Bergen in the first round.[4] He was also relegated to the Eerste Divisie in 1983 and again got relegated withMVV in 1986.[5]
Former FC Amsterdam chairmanDé Stoop lured him to his new clubFC Den Haag and he also lost the1986–87 KNVB Cup final with them, but qualified for and played in the1987–88 European Cup Winners' Cup with Den Haag.[6]
He later worked as caretaker manager, academy manager, technical director and facility manager atAFC.[7]
Van de Meent died on 13 October 2022, at the age of 84.[8] He was survived by his wife Netty and their three children.[9]
