Daniel Pieter Prinsloo (born 7 January 1992) is a South African professionalbasketball player who currently plays for theJohannesburg Giants. Prinsloo has also played for theSouth Africa national team. Standing at 2.08 m (6 ft 10 in), he plays aspower forward orcenter.

Early life

Born inPretoria West, Prinsloo was initially interested in playing cricket or rugby. When his father emigrated to the United States, he started playing football.[1]

Professional career

After spending the first four years as professional in several teams fromLatin America andAfrica. His first contract was withExSAL Santa Tecla in El Salvador.[2] He later joinedLos Trinis de la Trinidad, a team based inNicaragua. In 2016, he had a short stint with Bolivian teamCalero in the Liga Boliviana de Basquetbol. After this, Prinsloo returned to Nicaragua to play forCosta Caribe Managua.

In September 2018, Prinsloo signed for SpanishLEB Plata teamCírculo Gijón.[3] However, due to problems with his visa, he could not arrive toAsturias until December.[4]

In 2017, Prinsloo played his first professional contract with theLagos City Stars in theContinental Basketball League.[5]

In 2020, Prinsloo moved to the newly-establishedCape Town Tigers. He helped the Tigers win three national championships. Prinsloo was an instrumental part for the team in the2022 BAL qualifiers.[6] He then went on to play in the2022 season and the2023 season of theBasketball Africa League (BAL), the continental premier league.

In December 2023, Prinsloo moved to Chile to play forUniversidad de Concepción of theLNB Chile and theBCL Americas.[7]

He shortly returned to South Africa, to joinMBB for theSouth African National Basketball Championship.[8] Prinsloo joinedLas Ánimas de Valdivia in October 2024.[9] Prinsoo returned to the MBB roster during thegroup phase. On May 20, 2025, he scored a BAL career-high 30 points to lead MBB to its first ever win in the league, over theNairobi City Thunder.[10]

International career

Prinsloo played theAfroBasket 2017 with theSouth Africa national basketball team. He averaged 12.3 points and 4.7 rebounds in the three games he played.[11]
